Description

Virginia Tech Tree Identification brings the award winning Virginia Tech digital dendrology material to your Android smart phone. It contains fact sheets for over 1000 woody plants from all over North America with an in-depth description, range map and thousands of color images of leaves, flowers, fruit, twigs, bark and form.
Users can narrow the species list for any location in North America using the phone's GPS, network signal or any entered address or zip code. Basically the application can become “Woody Plants of Where You Are Standing”. For example, it can become the “Woody Plants of Southwestern Oregon” , the “Woody Plants of Central Park” or the or “The Woody Plants of 37.108 lat., -80.452 long., elevation 2118”.
Users can further narrow the species list by answering a series of very simple tree attribute questions such as where the plant is growing, leaf shape, leaf arrangement, flower color or fruit type.
The species list can also be narrowed by typing a keyword such as oak, Abies, red or palm. For example if oak is typed only oaks found in the defined area will be listed.
A feature also allows you to send any tree related question to “Dr. Dendro”, a tree expert in the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation at Virginia Tech. You can send a tree description or pictures of your plant and experts will help with identification.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★Pretty good for a free app.
5 ★I just downloaded this app and already I am impressed. I've been dealing with this app and that app and this website and that that website. It's always a guessing game with certain species who's leaves look like other species. I've only scrolled through a little and see that this should be easier with the fact that it finds trees to my exact location.👍 Would like to make a suggestion though. A secondary picture of younger tree bark would be helpful. I know these are all ID from VT though.
5 ★Love this app. It's simple and easy to use.
5 ★Absolutely fantastic resource. I redownload this every time I get a new phone.
3 ★Annoying bug freezes after the plant description have to work around by doing a force stop and then opening again. Otherwise it is very easy to use and useful in the field. Cannot recommend due to the bug.
1 ★Doesn't scan photos. About half the species don't even have pictures. Install kept stopping and then took an extremely long time when it did.
1 ★Used to be good, but those stupid inteview questions are annoying. I hope for an ugraded version without basic/advanced interview.
5 ★Incredibly useful.
1 ★Absolutely baffled the only reason I want to identify a tree is to see what it's medicinal or edible or if it's a soft or hardwood or any other uses it is good for... This app doesn't give you ANY of that info. What's the point identifying something if you don't know what it's good for. Whoever designed this has an IQ less than a monkey. Virginia tech students or leadership are dumb as hell. So glad the vaccine is going to get rid of a large portion of the morons on this earth.
5 ★Great app for beginner tree enthusiasts. Truely free without annoying and needy ads. It needs a better search engine. I hope to see VT continue to improve this app.
