Description

Ornithopedia North America offers a searchable list of all 2211 birds in the Nearctic ecozone (Canada, United States of America and Mexico) in 17 languages.

The App comes with over 5000 pictures, 68.000 streaming sound files and much more. You can also include your own content (pictures or sounds) seamlessly. Additional features include an Ornitho-Trainer, for training to recognize bird features of common birds. Currently in testing is also a feature for making lists.

You also have the possibility to get more content by downloading free modules. The modules currently available are:
- High quality version of all 5000 pictures (+ 330 MB-750 MB, depending on the module chosen)
- Offline Wikipedia article for all birds (+ 50-77 MB each, depending on the language selected)

This field guide / hobby ornithology / educational birding App was published in June of 2015.
Everything is for free and all resources used are creative commons or equally free licensed and attributed as well as possible.
Streaming content obviously needs an internet connection to work, if you don't want those features you can disable them.

Due to the North American version of Ornithopedia being just released it is lacking some content and features, compared with the European version. If you have time to spare and wish to help to complete it check the website of the App for more information!
Feedback of any kind is welcome. Wishes of features to be added or annoying quirks you want fixed, just drop me a mail and I see if there is something that can be done.

Cheers and have fun with the App.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

5 ★I don't even know how long I've been searching for a free, reliable, and thorough bird identification app. Most I found were buggy, lacking, or rediculously priced ($40.00? Really?) but this one is different. It has an exceedingly large database, fashioned with calls, images, and scientific names. On top of that, it's completely free and ad-less (or if it does have pop-ups, I haven't noticed any.) It is still a bit rough; lacking basic facts, like region or wingspan, and some feautures were arguably a tad difficult to use, but one could contribute that to how comparably new it is. I am nothing but satisfied and have high hopes for future updates. Brovo, Mr. Developer!
5 ★This is an excellent app; easily the best birding app I have downloaded. Unfortunately, in searches, this app does not have a prominent position.
2 ★It says north America yet it has birds from South America, Africa and Eurasia and missing very common bird's of North America!!!
4 ★Ok
5 ★Very nice
