Description
Space Trader is a strategy game in space. It is a port of the Palm Pilot game “Space Trader” by Pieter Spronck, which is inspired by David J. Webb’s PalmPilot game SolarWars (which in turn is based on Matt Lee’s game DopeWars) and the 80’s classic 3D strategy game Elite (though it does not have Elite’s 3D flight mode).- Ten different trade goods are available, two of which are considered to be illegal but can bring great profits.
- Ten different ship types are available, some of which are especially suitable for trading, some for pirating, and others for both. Ships differ in size, the distance they can travel, their hull strength, the number of weapons, shields and gadgets they can carry, the number of cargo bays and the number of crew quarters that are available.
- Ships can be equipped with different selections of equipment, among which are several types of lasers, several types of shields, an escape pod and certain special gadgets like a cloaking device.
- You can distribute skill points over your character at the start of the game, to allow you to function well in your chosen role. For the skills your character lacks, mercenaries can be hired which may have different skills.
- There are more than a hundred solar systems in the galaxy, with different sizes, tech levels, governments, resources and special situations. These are not just for background color, but play a vital role in the game.
- While travelling to another solar system, you might encounter police ships, pirates and other traders. There are several ways to handle such encounters. You can even force a trader to allow you to plunder his ship.
- There are about a dozen unique missions and offers available, some of which may bring great special rewards.
The game is available as free software under the GNU General Public License.

5 ★I never played original game, so I suppose I can't give a valid rating regarding comparison, but i love text based RPGs. There is another version of this game that I've yet to try, but i give credit here with what I can see. A few sound effects would polish it a bit. A way to jot down some notes about star systems would be a lifesaver (does anyone else use a pad and pen with this game? Lol) Good job!
5 ★The game is rather interesting and i had so much fun with it. Could really spent hours playing it and it doesn't really bothered my batteries that much. It does get repetitive after awhile but you would have other options/paths to take. Making it a simple yet exciting. Would hope for more contents though like other quests or maybe new enemies?
4 ★Fun game. Feels like Elite without actually flying the ship. Think I found a bug with the scarab quest line, tho. Flew around the galaxy to every wormhole exit about 50 times with 3 pulse lasers equipped, never saw it. All my exits were also wormhole entrances, maybe that's why?
4 ★I'd love to give it 5 stars but it is bugged devs! I follow the dragonfly to the appropriate system and then nothing. I be flown to every system and nothing. Makes me sad 😖
5 ★Old school space trading simulator. Very basic combat and traveling. Extremely challenging. Give it a try!
5 ★Brilliant, addictive, fun. A few more quests could make it drag on a little less near the end (as when I hit 300k I was pretty much just trading to save up for the moon) but that's about it. :)

3 ★It's a great concept, but I only gave it three stars because it doesn'tsave at all. By that I mean it has no save button and the "Autosave onarrival" function doesn't work at all for me ( works for my friend though). If this is fixed I will gladly give it 5 stars.
5 ★I have spent a humiliatingly enormous amount of time playing this game. Glad to have it on my new device. PC games are dead to me now.
5 ★Plain simple UI, super addictive gameplay, tonz of replay value. Brings back the memories of playing Elite on my old x86 PC in ms-dos era. :)
5 ★I used to play this game back in my Palm Pilot days, and am so happy there's a version for Android. It works well and is just as much fun as I remember. It's turn based with sort of old-school graphics, and a lot of fun. (If you're into FPS or massive multiplayer games, this might not be for you.) A couple of minor suggestions: IIRC the original game allowed you to switch between two separate game states so for instance. Not necessary but it would be nice. There is one small sequencing error that goes something like this: - You kill a pirate - A container of something goes floating by - You try to pick it up with a full hold - You get the dialog that says you've arrived at your destination - Only then do you get the dialog that says you have to jettison something if you want to keep the container It's a minor bug that doesn't really affect game play but it still would be good to fix it.
5 ★The user interface has lots of detail but is still simple to understand and read. Well done, great game overall.
