Projekt „Zeleno srce Podravine“ provodi Općina Pitomača, a financira se sredstvima Europske unije iz Kohezijskog fonda u financijskom razdoblju 2014.-2020. Ukupna vrijednost prihvatljivih troškova je 299.944,54 kuna, a bespovratna sredstva iznose 254.952,62 kune što predstavlja 85% ukupno prihvatljivih troškova projekta.Provedbom projekta želi se riješiti problem nedovoljne informiranosti građana o načinu razvrstavanja otpada, ali i drugim mogućnostima poput ponovne upotrebe predmeta ili zašto je važno racionalnije kupovati.
Cilj projekta je podići svijest građana o tome koliko je važno odvajati otpad, zašto ga je potrebno smanjiti i koji utjecaj on ostavlja na okoliš. Ciljna skupina u projektu su svi stanovnici s područja koje se obuhvaća projektom (žene, djeca, muškarci, umirovljenici, turisti, mladi, odgojno-obrazovno institucije).
Projektom će se provesti 11 projektnih aktivnosti (održavanje radionica, obilježavanje datuma vezanih za zaštitu okoliša, održavanje natjecanja u školi u izradi kreativnih stvari od prethodno sakupljenog otpada, izrada web stranice i mobilne aplikacije i ostale) koje su namijenjene raznim dobnim skupinama s većim naglaskom na djecu.
