Dall’8 settembre 1943 al 21 aprile 1945, le vie e gli edifici cittadini offrono scampo e rifugio alla popolazione civile e agli ebrei in fuga dai rastrellamenti dei nazisti e dei fascisti. Talvolta invece si trasformano in trappole senza uscita.
