Unter der Fragestellung „Wie entwickelt sich meine Stadt?“ informiert die kostenfreie App „Wegweiser Demographie“ über die Bevölkerungsentwicklung in allen Kommunen Deutschlands mit mehr als 5.000 Einwohnern.Seit 2005 betreibt die Bertelsmann Stiftung mit dem „Wegweiser Kommune“ eine der ersten deutschen Open-Data-Projekte. Die Internetplattform www.wegweiser-kommune.de bietet eine Vielzahl an Daten, Bevölkerungsprognosen und konkreten Handlungskonzepten für rund 3.000 Städte und Gemeinden sowie fast 300 Landkreise.
Mit der mobile App „Wegweiser Demographie“ wird ein Teil dieser Daten und Prognosen zum Demographischen Wandel in Form von Informationsgrafiken bereitgestellt.
