Meggy Z adalah seorang penyanyi dangdut senior, meski dia juga menjajal dunia seni peran, namun pamornya lebih banyak di dunia musik dangdut. Loyalitas Meggy dalam dunia dangdut pun telah diakui.Pada ajang Anugerah Dangdut TPI 1997, ia mendapat penghargaan sebagai Penyanyi Rekaman Dangdut Terbaik. Lewat Benang Biru, selang setahun kemudian, pada 2003, lagu ini menjadi Lagu Dangdut Terbaik di ajang Anugerah Dangdut TPI 1998. Selain favorit para juri, lagu ini pun menjadi favorit para penggemar dangdut tanah air.
Meski saat itu penyanyi-penyanyi dangdut pria mulai bermunculan, namun ia masih menjadi favorit. Salah satunya dibuktikan dengan berhasilnya ia menjadi Penyanyi Pria Favorit lewat lagunya, Permisi di ajang yang sama pada 2002.
Sukses di dunia dangdut membuat pelantun Sakit Gigi ini mencoba dunia peran yang pada akhirnya membuatnya enjoy. Debut aktingnya saat membintangi sinetron BULAN BERKACA. Dari sini, ia lantas sering tampil di sinetron, bahkan mendapat peran utama di JADI POCONG. Sinetron lain yang pernah ia bintangi adalah DUK DUK MONG.
Pada tahun 90-an, hampir semua lagu-lagu yang dibawakan Meggy menjadi hits. Sebut saja Benang Biru dan Senyum Membawa Luka yang ada di album BERAKHIR PULA serta lagu Anggur Merah, Mandul, Gubuk Bambu, Jatuh Bangun dan Mata Air Cinta.
Dalam kehidupan pribadinya, Meggy menikahi Zainabun sejak 1970. Dari pernikahannya ini, mereka dikaruniai 2 orang anak dan 3 orang cucu.
Rabu malam, 21 Oktober 2009, Meggy berpulang ke Rahmatullah. Sekitar pukul 23.30 WIB, Meggy menghembuskan nafas terakhir di RS Margonda, Depok dengan didampingi istri dan anak-anaknya. Rencananya, jenazah almarhum bakal disemayamkan di kediamannya di Cipayung.
