Taman kanak-kanak Islam Al-Afiah yang memiliki nama awal berdirinya yakni TK.RA. AL-AFIAH didirikan pada tanggal 11 Desember tahun 1978 di bawah naungan Yayasan Generasi Sejahtera yang dipimpin oleh bapak Arsyad Puji dan H.Maming dan sebagai kepala TK.RA adalah Hj.Rosma Pabottingi dan berlokasi di halaman mesjid Shihhatul Iman. Kemudin pada tahun 1999 TK.RA AL-AFIAH berpindah lokasi ke tanah kosong di samping mesjid Shihhatul Iman dan berganti nama menjadi TK ISLAM AL-AFIAH.Karena melihat antusiasme masyarakat akan taman kanak-kanak Islam, menginspirasi bapak H. Maming untuk membangun fasilitas TK yakni 3 ruang kelas, 1 ruang kantor, gudang dan toilet serta halaman bermain.
Pada tahun 2002, Hj.Rosma Pabottingi digantikan oleh Ibu Rohani Salam yang menjabat selama ± 2 tahun, kemudian digantikan oleh Ibu Nurhayati,S.Ag yang menjabat sampai sekarang. TK ISLAM AL-AFIAH memiliki surat izin operasional dari Dinas Pendidikan Kota Makassar dengan Nomor 425/088C/DPK/IV/2004, mulai berlaku tanggal 12 April 2004.
Selanjutnya kami terus berbenah dan mengembangkan diri dengan mengikuti pelatihan-pelatihan dan belajar mandiri. Perubahan kami lakukan dari menggunakan pembelajaran klasikal ke kelompok, area sampai sekarang. Pada tanggal 13 Februari 2012, kami menambah program layanan Kelompok Bermain dan pada tahun 2013 kami menambah program layanan TPQ (Taman Pendidikan A-Quran). Ditahun 2012, TK ISLAM AL-AFIAH memperoleh nilai akreditasi "B" dari Badan Akreditasi Nasional (BAN-S/M). Dan sejak tahun pelajaran 2015-2016 sampai sekarang menggunakan kurikulum 2013 sebagai peralihan dari kurikulum 2004.
