Description

Audubon Hummingbirds at Home

Download Audubon’s Hummingbirds at Home app, which makes it easy and fun to keep track of the hummingbirds you see while collecting data that helps Audubon scientists and researchers understand how to protect them.

To sustain their high energy lifestyles, hummingbirds must always have quick access to food. This means they must time their migrations with the flowering of the nectar-bearing plants they depend on. Recent studies show that the blooming of hummingbird flowers and arrival of the hummingbirds in their breeding areas are out of sync, which could spell trouble for the world’s smallest bird.

Now you can help Audubon unravel what is happening with hummingbirds and their nectar sources. The Hummingbirds at Home app helps you set up a patch in your yard, garden, porch, window box, park – or just about anywhere – where you can do plant surveys to keep track of hummingbirds and what they feed on. You can also log sightings whenever you spot a hummingbird outside your patch. Then use your smart phone or computer to submit your data to Audubon researchers.

While other birding apps help you identify birds, Hummingbirds at Home lets you contribute to their well-being. Join us. Together we can help hummingbirds.

We value your participation as we work on adding features.

Recommended for devices running Android 4.0 or higher; devices running Android 2.3 may experience performance issues.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

1 ★Looks like it would be nice to use - if it would only work!
4 ★This app has a lot of potential but still needs work. My biggest complaint so far is that the list of nectar sources does not include many of the most common (native) plants for my area (Florida). No Salvia coccinea, no Coral honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens), etc. So all my sighting entries end up showing "nectar feeder" as the nectar source. This can't be helping Audubon's research efforts. Sure hope Audubon is reading these reviews.
4 ★The paucity of nectar sources listed is kind of annoying. I have many non-native ornamental flowers the birds in my yard feed on, but I am forced to put 'unknown' when I am quite certain what they are eating. Everything else is great though.
1 ★Cannot even connect on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 so I can even try it out. Gives server connection errors. Audubon apps are becoming a joke. A waste of money!
2 ★Not happy with this app. Could not set the single sighting for when no net connection was seen. Cannot change the location for single sighting when net available. Not easy to change the location while reporting. Would like to be part of this but it needs more improvements.
2 ★I've been using this app for a few months now and thought it was greatuntil I realized today that my GPS coordinates that it took from enteringmy address manually and from my GPS settings, are showing me somewhere inNew Jersey, when I am in the Boston area. There is no way to fix it, andI'm assuming that my 50-plus sightings so far this year are all incorrect.I really wanted to help with the data-gathering, but now I'm not sure anyof the results are accurate.
1 ★On my GS4. Comes up with some sort of network error, and yes I do have Internet access.
2 ★When you try to log out and exit you get stuck in a loop. I had to hit the back button and exit buttons roughly 10x before the app actually closed..
5 ★So awesome to be a part of the information gathering on these incredible birds. Can't wait to get out this weekend to spot some in the Presidio.
1 ★Unable to connect so I uninstalled this app.
5 ★This is a fantastic new app and a wonderful way to learn about hummingbirds.
