Description
Kursk - The Biggest Tank Battle is a turn based strategy game set on the Eastern Front during the Second World War. By Joni Nuutinen: by a wargamer for the wargamers since 2011!Historical background: In 1943 Germans hoped to shorten the Russian front by eliminating the Kursk Salient, which had been created in the aftermath of the Battle of Stalingrad. Wehrmacht, focusing majority of their elite divisions on the Eastern Front on this relatively small area, envisioned Panzer spearheads breaking through northern and southern flanks of the salient to encircle the Red Army forces. However, the Soviets had excellent intelligence of the German plan, called Operation Citadel. This, and German delays in waiting for new weapons, the Tiger heavy tank and the Panther medium tank, gave the Red Army time to construct a series of defensive lines and gather large reserve forces. This huge concentration of armed forces on both sides led into the biggest tank battle of history on the outskirts of Prokhorovka on 12 July 1943. The question "could German Army have succeeded in this offensive", was kind of left unanswered, as Allied landing in Sicily and the Soviet offensives elsewhere on the Eastern Front pressured Hitler to abort the Operation Citadel only after 10 days.

5 ★Another great game and although I appreciate the "extra time" to achieve victory, Hitler kind of "pulled-the-plug" on this one, so a time limited scenario would be more accurate.

4 ★I've played and purchased every one of the Conflict titles. Which may explain my waning enthusiasm for the series. This one is uniformly perfect, but honestly another wwii Eastern Front land campaign just doesn't light me up anymore. Not much distinguishes this from,say, Panzer Missions (maybe my favorite of the wwii titles). I've always kind of felt like this was an historically overblown battle because of the sheer numbers involved. Hitler bailed on this cauldron fight really early....Pacific! Naval!
5 ★An enjoyable challenge, which you can keep improving on your performance. Fatigue, leadership, support adds to the fun/challenge. Simple one handed play that you can leave and return at will. Worth every cent. Thanks for the game.
