Sementara itu, lagu Gosip Jalanan dari album PLUR yang dirilis pada 2004 berbuah sorotan dari anggota Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat. Slank yang saat itu menjadi duta anti-korupsi untuk Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi dianggap melecehkan dewan melalui syair-syair lagu tersebut. DPR-RI melalui Lembaga Kehormatan Dewan berencana melancarkan tuntutan pada grup anak muda ini, meski kemudian rencana tersebut dibatalkan.
Rencana Slank untuk Go International mulai terlihat di pertengahan 2008. Dengan kolaborasi dengan The Big Hip, sebuah band asal Jepang, menghasilkan sebuah album, The Big Hip. Di album ini, Slank menggunakan tiga bahasa sekaligus : Indonesia, Jepang dan Inggris.
