و الأبجدية الانجليزية تكتب على شكلين :
حروف كبيرة ( كابيتال ) capital letters
حروف صغيرة ( سمول ) small letters
حيث تستعمل الحروف الكبيرة ( الكابيتال ) في بداية الجملة , و في أوائل الأسماء العلم , مثل :
هو مدرس he is a teacher

و حروف العلّة في اللغة الانجليزية ( vowel letters ) , خمسة حروف كالتالي : ( a – e – i – o – u ) و يدل اسمها ( vowel ) على أن لفظها يخرج دون احتكاك بين اللسان و الشفتين أو سقف الحلق, و هي تمثل الحركات , و تقايل حروف العلة في اللغة العربية ( أ – و – ى ).
و هناك حرف ( y ) , و هو نصف معتل , لأنه يقوم مقام الحركة أحياناً ( كما سيتبين لك فيما بعد ) .
و يبقى لدينا فيما بعد عشرون حرفاً ساكناً أو صحيحاً.
