دارة الإفتاء في وزارة الأوقاف الكويتية أنشئت عام 1987م بعدما كانت مهمة الإفتاء موكلة للجان التابعة لمكتب الإفتاء ، ونظراً للتراكمات الإدارية واتساع المهام أنشئت إدارة الإفتاء ، وأُسند إليها الكثير من المهام العلمية والإدارية؛ من إصدار الفتاوى، ونشر مجموعة سلسلة الفتاوى الشرعية، والفتوى الهاتفية، وفتاوى البريد الإلكتروني.وتعتبر هذه الإدارة المرجع الشرعي لجميع شرائح المجتمع على المستويين الرسمي والشعبي، كما تعمل على عرض البيان الشرعي فيما يعترض الناس من مشكلات حياتية، بالإضافة إلى ترسيخ المرجعية الشرعية للهيئة العامة في جهاز الإفتاء من خلال تعزيز موجبات الثقة بها، وتلبية احتياجات المجتمع في فهم أحكام الشريعة الإسلامية وحُسْن تطبيقها، وتحقيقا لمفهوم الوسطية ، وإسهاماً في القضاء على المظاهر السلبية الناجمة عن الإفتاء من جانب غير المتخصصين.
