1 ★I like the lessons, but the app is the worst ever. It had one purpose... to let me listen to audio lessons. It fails at that so miserably, I've never seen anything like that - I can't control playback, it won't respond to me tapping pause or +-10 sec, it won't let me scroll to a point in the track, there are sometimes long pauses, it tracks playback time wrong and it doesn't start from where I left off if I close the app mid-lesson and reopen. So. Damn. Bad
5 ★This program makes it easy to learn any language as long as you're serious about it. It has a wide array of study tools and even has a voice coach AI that can assist you with tricky pronunciations. I'm often cut off from the internet for long periods of time, but I can download all of my lessons in advance and have full functionality. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.
4 ★The course is worth the money. Couple downsides- the app doesn't pause/play well with external devices when the screen isn't on, and it crashes occasionally without saving your lesson progress. Big thing content wise is you can only practice by lesson, you can't practice verbs only for example, or save a deck of words you have problems remembering.
3 ★I want to give this app a better rating because the material is great. The problem, however, is that the app is buggy. I cant get past lesson 10 in french because around the halfway point, the audio cuts out. 9/10 times I cant pause, 7/10 times I cant rewind, and sometimes I cant even toggle between lessons properly. The first few lessons I didnt have this problem, and I'm starting to regret paying for a subscription.
3 ★For language purposes, it's awesome. You learm fast in both reading and writing and it has flash cards to practice with. But the app itself barely fuctions. Sometimes I'll go to pause it and it has frozen. Sometimes I'll try to rewind and the arrow's hit box is too small. Sometimes I'll have it paused, and getting an email or text message reactivates the lesson, regardless of whay I'm doing. It's fine for learning, but the app itself is a pain in the rear to use and extremely frustrating.
2 ★Saw some ads for this app showing people talking to the app as if it were using voice recognition to improve your speaking skills. This is however not the case; the lessons just have pauses so that you can repeat what you heard. The interface is also slightly confusing and there is no "tutorial" showing what does what. The first lesson (almost 30 minutes long) is about 10 minutes' worth of lecture spread out super thin. Considering all this, $20/month seems heavily overpriced.
5 ★I think the app is absolutely amazing. I just think that to make money, maybe you can add very little ads and some kind of membership that gets rid of the ads becuase barely anyone likes paying for these things and I'm a kid so I wont have anyone money to pay for lessons. But other than that, the app is really useful, just please let me get past lesson one.
3 ★The best part about this app is that there are relatively few ads, a highly user-friendly interface, and the fact it is quite easy to remember material from previous lessons. Also it helps with what it does best - and that is making people conversational in the target language. However, I become demotovated after 20 or so lessons. I feel like I have to force myself to open the app everyday. I am 1 lesson away from finishing Spanish 1 and I can barely even motivate myself to finish it.
4 ★Since they solved the auto-play-while-app-is-in-the-background issue this app is definitely serviceable. It still has some rough edges; like all lessons being "30" minutes long in the lesson select timer when in fact they vary by a few minutes each. Grabbing the timer arrow to fastforward or rewind can be a pain. These are minor design complaints; the functionality is good now. The Pimsleur program itself is fantastic for learning. 30 minutes is a great amount of time to learn each day.
3 ★Love the lessons and content, a listening +vocal style of learning is very intuitive for someone like me who has poor reading/writing skills in any language. However the app constantly crashes, doesn't remember which lessons I've done, and doesn't run well with other applications. I want to love this and use it daily but if I cant get through a single lesson without it crashing then it's hard to rate this higher.
4 ★It's difficult to purchase anything, or redeem codes on the app. On desktop, it was easy enough to purchase subscriptions or lesson packages, but I had to call customer service to redeem a code. When I did, customer service was among the best I have ever experienced, and they helped me redeem my code, which actually took typing in a different url, as we were unable to redeem it through navigating through the main site. Great app overall, the language instruction is top notch.
4 ★Great app for learning to speak languages. 4 stars because I'm learning Russian and my husband speaks fluent Russian, he states that some of the phrases are very, very proper/old school although they still make sense they're not not commonly spoken that way in real life. I wish it had more for reading/writing. Otherwise super easy and convenient to use!! And the teaching method works really well! Still worth it to me!
