Ayetullah Uzma Seyit Ali Hüseyni Sistani, 1928 yılında İmam Rıza’nın (a.s) mübarek türbesinin bulunduğu mukaddes Meşhed şehrinde dünyaya gözlerini açtı.İlk tahsilini Horasan’ın meşhur alimlerinden aldı. Daha sonra derslerini tekmil etmek amacıyla 1947 yılında Kum kentine hicret etti. Dönemin en büyük taklit mercilerinin derslerine katıldı.
Bir süre sonra en büyük ilim merkezi olan mukaddes Necef kentine gitti. Henüz 31 yaşındayken Ayetullah Hoi ve Ayetullah Hilli’den içtihat belgesini aldı.
Ömrünü ilim ve maneviyata adayan ve sayısız eseri bulunan Ayetullah Uzma Sistani, halen mukaddes Necef kentinde yaşamaktadır.
