MBC Networks (Pvt) Ltd owns and operates four FM radio broadcasting channels in three languages, Sinhala, Tamil and English. Its programme content revolutionised Sri Lanka's broadcasting industry and its mission is to provide entertainment and information to enhance the lifestyles of the Sri Lankan public.
The stations cater to a large listener base and to a variety of tastes comprising contemporary music, drama, sports, current affairs and unbiased news reports and programs.
Yes FM is the English language channel. The pioneer 24 hour English programme channel in Sri Lanka, it is aimed at the urban, English educated listener. Yes FM is a lifestyle channel playing distinctive, contemporary formatted music and featuring programmes with an urban slant and business and international news content.
Sirasa FM, the Sinhala language channel, enjoys the highest listener-ship across the country. This channel has taken FM radio to new heights of mass popularity in Sri Lanka. Innovative and creative mass appeal programmes cover local sports, radio dramas, local and international news, business and finance, weather and traffic news. Music broadcasts are designed to cater to a variety of tastes, Sirasa FM pushes new frontiers by creating a new standard in listening pleasure.
Shakthi FM is the only Sri Lankan Tamil language channel available on the internet. The only Tamil radio channel with island-wide coverage, including the jaffna Peninsula and most parts of the North Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Shakthi FM broadcasts music, live news, interactive interviews and a host of other programme formats that are innovations in Tamil radio in Sri Lanka.
Y FM The Newest addition to MBC Networks was launched on the 1st of December 2005. Its primary audience is -Youth - Radio listeners and those who are exposed to Western & Bollywood cultures.
Creating a unique brand identity positioning the channel to be innovative & unique in its approach, Presentation and Music reflects - Casual and relaxed presentation style.
MBC Channels (Pvt) Limited was set up by The Maharaja Organisation in 1993. This was in keeping with the Group's strategic thrusts into the areas of media and communication. Initially, broadcasts started with Yes FM, the English language channel. The Channel was the first to offer 18 hours of non-stop English programming in Sri Lanka and in 1994 started broadcasting 24 hours a day.
Sirasa FM followed suit soon after the launch of Yes FM. Starting with the same 18 hours a day of broadcasting it rapidly emerged as the most popular radio channel in Sri Lanka. Today, it is a 24 hour channel.
Shakthi FM was launched in November 1998. And from the beginning was a 24 hour a day channel.
