한껏 무르익은 녹음 속에 지천으로 피어 있는 들꽃, 계곡을 타고 내려오는 맑은 물과 공기. 새 소리만 들리는 고요함. 새골 만 오천 평안에 다양한 생명체들을 관찰 할 수 있는 이곳이 바로 홀로세 생태학교입니다.태고적 청정함은 이제 꺼질락 말락하는 반딧불이의 존재와 같이 우리의 곁을 떠나고 있습니다.
황새를 보기 위해서 멀리 천수만을 가야하고 , 영화 속 주인공 쉬리도 깊은 산속 깨끗한 계곡에서만 우리를 맞이합니다.
붉은점모시나비는 어디서 관찰할 수 있는지 잘 모르고, 흔하디흔했던 할미꽃도 쉽게 볼 수 없습니다. 언제나 우리의 곁에 있어서 항상 같이 할 수 있는 친구로만 여겼었는데 우리의 무관심과 부질없는 욕심 때문에 떠나고 있었습니다.
자연의 질서를 무시한 인간의 잘못임을 깨닫고 현재의 생태학적 위기를 알리며, 자연과 생명에 대해 깊이 생각할 수 있는 장을 만들고자 1997년 7월 홀로세 생태학교의 문을 열었습니다.
홀로세 생태학교의 서식화 작업은 인간의 풍수와 무관하지 않습니다.
양택과 음택을 가려 묘를 써 자손 잘 되게 하려는 인간이나, 먹을 것 살 곳을 가려 자손을 번식시켜 종족 보존하려는 동물의 입장은 전혀 차이가 없습니다. 풍수와 인간 그리고 서식화(토양과 식물)와 곤충을 대입하였습니다. 땅을 살아있는 생명체로 보고 바람을 갈무리하며, 물을 얻으면서 식물과 곤충, 민물고기와 새가 살 수 있는 공간으로 만들었습니다.
홀로세 생태학교는 이렇습니다.
그동안 홀대 받았던 우리의 자생적인 들꽃들은 앞 다투어 자신의 소박한 아름다움을 뽐내고, 비단벌레와 산홍단딱정벌레의 광택 나는 외피와 육중한 사슴벌레의 톱니가 눈부시고, 자유로이 헤엄쳐 다니는 민물고기와 문득 빛이 있어 밤하늘의 허공을 간질이는 개똥벌레는 윤동주의 서시처럼 별 헤는 밤을 노래할 것입니다. 나풀거리며 날아다니는 꼬리명주나비는 또 얼마나 멋집니까?
환경과 자연 보존의 길앞잡이가 되고 곤충과 식물을 통해서 미래를 보려고 합니다. 진정한 생태학은 생태가 탐구 대상이 아니라 생태적 관점에서 자연과 동물 그리고 우주를 탐구하는 학문이라고 생각합니다.
홀로세 생태학교는 인간과 자연의 상생(相生)과 하나 됨을 추구합니다.
