Εκτείνεται από τα δυτικά του Νομού Ξάνθης με όριο τον ποταμό Νέστο, στο ύψος των Στενών του Νέστου (Τοξότες), ως τα ανατολικά όρια του Νομού με το Νομό Ροδόπης (Σούνιο) μεταξύ 41° 12΄ 44΄΄ ως 41° 05΄ 10΄΄ βόρειου γεωγραφικού πλάτους και 01° 03΄ 50΄΄ ως 01° 22΄ 35 ανατολικού γεωγραφικού μήκους από τον μεσημβρινό των Αθηνών. Διοικητικά υπάγεται στο Δήμο Ξάνθης, Δήμο Σταυρούπολης, Δήμο Τοπείρου και Κοινότητα Σελέρου σύμφωνα με το σχέδιο «Καποδίστρια» που εφαρμόστηκε στον Ν. Ξάνθης.
