Description
Chess for Android consists of a chess engine and a GUI. The application accepts moves through the touch screen, trackball, or keyboard (e2e4 pushes the king pawn, e1g1 castles king side, etc.). An optional "move coach" highlights valid user moves during input and last played engine move. Full game navigation enables users to correct mistakes or analyze games. Games import and export as FEN/PGN to and from the clipboard or via sharing, load and save as file, or are set up through a position editor. A draw by stalemate, insufficient material, the fifty move rule, or threefold repetition is recognized. The engine plays at various levels (including random, against itself in auto-play, or free-play, where the game can be used as a "magnetic chessboard"). The user can play either side and, independently, view the board from the perspective of white or black.The application supports the Universal Chess Interface (UCI) and Chess Engine Communication Protocol (WinBoard and XBoard), which allows users to play against more powerful third party engines or even play tournaments between engines. Engines are imported in Android Open Exchange format (OEX), in Android Chessbase compatible format, or directly from SD card. Engine setup features time control, pondering, infinite analysis, hash tables, multiple threads, endgame tablebases, and opening test suites.
The application connects to an external electronic chessboard (Certabo, Chessnut, ChessUp, DGT, House of Staunton, or Millennium) and supports online play on FICS (Free Internet Chess Server) or ICC (Internet Chess Club).

2 ★Very poor controls, not suitable for playing competitive games. UPDATE: sorry, to be more specific: I didn't test the engine, and the app altogether might be feature rich which could be useful for some people indeed. My comment is for the user interface when playing on FICS comparing to XBoard/WinBoard on PC or Mobialia Chess Free on mobile. Moving the pieces is cumbersome, which is a certain loss in Blitz/Lightning games.
2 ★Maybe, not a bad app, but its functionality for offline play is very limited. It lacks some features, such as premove and separate time controls . It makes no sense to install this app if you respect chess and are a serious player. Saving does not work, it says "error saving game". Of a dozen of its chess designs, only one looks like standard though not the best in existence, the rest are just funny. It has neither Alpha, nor Linares, nor Hastings, nor Zurich that are good standard designs.
5 ★Very beautiful app its incredible how is possible to keep all that smart funtions in so small size and reactive app. Definitively made by a real gentle chess lover and experienced developer with huge programming capability. I like all of it and it is for sure the best on the store all the other light years far away. It can connect, with all electronics boards on the market and for free too.

1 ★Poorly programmed. Does not propone its terms in the game waiting only for the opponent to make a mistake, it only tries to conquer territory on the board to block the game from progressing, forcing inevitability to the 50 moves rule or, what's worse, when I'm kicking its arse it declares 'draw by repetition' when there is no repetition on the moves! or try to reach stalemate. Pffff
1 ★Where and how do you get to play online? I suggest a simplified game menu for this chess app. With definitions for some of the meanings that's inside settings or a menu (smart enough to play, but not a really smart person, people or friends; not yet, lol). I downloaded this app after I seen 10 million downloads & online play. Like a Christmas gift, it wasn't there! Under rules & regulations "Keep Trying", because real chess players are more competative. Don't forget security updates.
5 ★Outstanding application, but regarding engine tournaments, how to resume an interrupted tournament? And how to change the number of games played by an engine against every other engine in round robin mode? Like 2 games, for instance. It would reduce the number of games of the tournament.

5 ★Great app. Its very small in size. Whatever features i want to have. I saw all in it. Can you please show an option for chess problems like other FICS apps. that apps shows problems from previous Grandmasters games and also options like pause, resign etc. Otherwise great app..!!

Staying away from "Overactive" graphics keeps this Checker Board working well and enables more experienced checker players in Customize settings, Hundreds of Variations for thousands of hours of Checker Fun! Take a Bow design team you deserve it!
4 ★This is a very good, very versatile chess app- best I've found. But I don't know how to interpret the built-in engine output-- for example "[6/9]332" in green under the board. It doesn't actually show moves.
5 ★I've awaited long minutes to play chess, but... Staring at a still checkboard is'nt really exciting, to me. MY BAD!
