Los Libros Digitales Interactivos, son una adecuación, con el uso de tecnología, de los Libros de Texto para la Educación General Básica que el Ministerio de Educación del Ecuador publicó recientemente, para propicia su desarrollo personal pleno y su integración en una sociedad guiada por los principios del Buen Vivir, la participación democrática y la convivencia armónica.Son un auxiliar educativo para los estudiantes con discapacidad visual porque de manera sincronizada presentan la imagen y leen el texto de los libros de texto de la educación básica y apoyan a los estudiantes con discapacidad para realizar las actividades educativas requeridas.
Permiten aumentar el tamaño de la letra para hacerla visible a débiles visuales.
Gracias a la tecnología de reconocimiento de voz que utilizan, los estudiantes con discapacidad visual, pueden usarlos con facilidad y dictar las respuestas a las actividades.
Disponen de un diccionario oral, para consultar las palabras desconocidas y tienen también cuaderno de notas, en el que pueden dictar sus anotaciones y examen de repaso oral.
Este material debe constituirse en un apoyo a procesos de enseñanza y aprendizaje que, para cumplir con su meta, han de ser guiados por los docentes y protagonizados por los estudiantes.
