Hooked on Phonics contains 42 progressive lessons featuring leveled learning activities that cover key building blocks of reading: short vowels, simple plurals, simple compound words, beginning and ending consonant digraphs and blends, two-syllable words, and sight words. 1 ★Just installed on 2 different devices today. Already not happy with this app, it doesn't work.
2 ★Constantly freezes up. Very glitchy, doesn't matter if using data or wifi.
5 ★My history with Hooked on Phonics goes back, well, let's just say lots of years ago and I loved it then. But not until now with my granddaughter have I ever heard a child ask repeatedly to use the app. I have to admit due to some technical short comings on my part she had become a big fan of another online program. While it might have been entertaining, I'm not sure the level of learning was comparable to what she has achieved in just a short while using Hooked on Phonics. She is reading!!! She will be 5 in May.and is pretty close to being on the same level as her cousin in K who just yesterday turned 6. My daughter and I share the laptop so she has access here or there. We are as thrilled as she is happy and learning, too! Home schooling made easy...
4 ★I love it, we have been usnig the App for two weeks now and I can tell that my son is ALREADY picking up on really important things that will help him begin reading. My only complaint is that he plays it for 5 minutes and is bored out of his mind. He like the books more than anything but it's VERY repetitive, which I know is important, but that also kills my ADD child. I wish they offered "games" as rewards for completing a level because he would have more insentive to learn that way.
1 ★Keeps messing up! My son wants to play so bad but we have had to reset the app 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Multiple lessons/games will pop up at once, so you hear instructions for two or three different areas talking over each other and the screen will freeze or turn dark with all the layers! Looking over reviews it looks like this has been a problem for a while. When will this be fixed?
1 ★My experience. This application is glitchy and un stable. I tried to use this app for educational purposes but it was irritating. The game would freeze up, clickable items wouldnt show images, and there are little guided instruction for a child to follow along or engage with. I tried to use app on a ipad and also a windows laptop, with little difference.
2 ★keeps glitching on my daughter. the ants will drive up with the letter and then more will drive up and cover the first ones before she even gets a chance to tap the screen. then when we finally get it to exit and go back in then the ants are still on the screen over the next activity. she was really excited but now shes just upset. even tried uninstalling and then putting it back on. at this point i feel like im going to have to get something else for her.
2 ★At first my daughter enjoyed this app until she struggled with one the activities that is repeatedly is in every activity. If she misses hearing the instructions at the vet beginning and doesn't remember what it said, there's no sound cue to have the instructions repeated back. So unfortunately we will have to end our membership because this is a problem with the app that I can't even help her. App needs improvement's.
1 ★It was going good up until recently. Now, the app doesn't work. Hopefully customer service gets back to me soon. I'll update if they do or if I just cancel my subscription. Email sent February 22, 2021. App deleted from tablet February 23, 2021.
5 ★Great for helping my kindergartner learn to read! She's made awesome progress. If you're looking for an educational app to keep your kid entertained while you do other things, this isn't it. But if you're looking for structured reading help and intervention, this is a life saver!
5 ★My son has a speech delay and was a nonreader heading into first grade. We started using Hooked on Phonics with him and it has helped immensely! He now reads and is getting better with each passing day! This app helped him understand how to put letters together to make sounds that ultimately made words!
1 ★Pretty terrible. 😑 I have had the subscription for four months I think and we have only received two practice packs. When I went to cancel this subscription I had to reset my password four times before I could, customer service was not helpful at all and canceling is a b****.
