Nama lengkap beliau adalah Abdullah Zaen bin Zaeni Muhajjat. Lahir di Purwokerto pada1 Juli 1980. Setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan dasar di TK Pertiwi dan SD Kejawar I Banyumas, beliau melanjutkan pendidikan di Pondok Modern ar-Risalah Slahung Ponorogo Jawa Timur dan Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo Jawa Timur. Beliau juga sempat mengenyam pendidikan di Fkultas Syariah Institut Islam Darussalam Gontor.
Setelahnya beliau menimba ilmu di kota Nabi tepatnya di Universitas Islam Madinah. Mengambil jurusan hadits dan dirasat islamiyah, beliau lulus dengan predikat cumlaude pada 2004. Lepas mendapat gelar sarjana, ustadz Abdullah Zaen kemudian melanjutkan pendidikan S2 dengan mengambil jurusan Aqidah di tempat yang sama dan lulus pada 2009.
Selain belajar formal di Universitas Islam Madinah, Ustadz Abdullah Zaen juga duduk belajar bersama para ulama Madinah. Diantaranya adalah Syaikh Abdul Muhsin bin Hamd al-‘Abbâd dimana ustadz Abdullah Zaen belajar kitab Sunan Abi Dâwûd, sebagian dari Sunan at-Tirmidzi, al-Arba’în an-Nawawiyyah dan sebagian dari Sunan Ibn Mâjah.
