Description
O sonho de uma emissora de rádio em Patos de Minas começou, na verdade, numa festa religiosa em 1935, em Santa Rita de Patos, hoje Presidente Olegário. Foi lá que Modesto de Melo Ribeiro e seu primo Olavo Amorim adquiriram um microfone, por 150 cruzeiros, que era utilizado na publicidade da loja do Sr. Randolfo Pinheiro Borges.O microfone e o equipamento de som foram instalados em Patos, na Loja Nova, no edifício Ponto Chic, centro da cidade e transmitia uma programação por alto-falantes colocados no famoso “vai-e-vem” da General Osório.
Juntaram-se a Modesto e Olavo, o engenheiro Eurico de Melo Ribeiro, o farmacêutico João Gualberto Amorim Jr. e Nhonhô Corrêa. Este se encarregou de aquirir uma moderna aparelhagem “Philips”, começando aí a Rádio Melhoramentos de Patos, empreendimento que contou com o apoio do povo, do comércio, da indústria e da Prefeitura, na pessoa do então prefeito Camundinho.
