Soul music is a famous music classification which can be traced back to the United States in the latter part of the 1950s and early part of the 1960s. It is formed by a combination of rhythm and blues, African-American gospel music, jazz, and doo-wop. A “call and response” (between the soloist and the chorus), a particularly tense vocal sound, and sometimes improvisational additions, twirls and auxiliary sounds are distinct characteristics of Soul music. Instruments often used ins Soul music include bass guitar, piano, Hammond organ, electric guitar, drums, horns, and keyboards.
