Description

The Kalimba, also called Karimba, Thumb Piano, Lamellophone, Mbira, Sanza, among others, is a musical instrument from southern Africa. The keys are plucked with thumb or fingers, and the vibrations are amplified by a hollow box resonator or sounding board.

With the Kalimba Android app you can experience this popular African percussion instrument for yourself. You can configure it like any kalimba you like with up to eleven keys. Set the tuning of the keys to any scale your favourite song requires. Unlike a real kalimba, these can be saved and restored whenever you like. It also supports Midi over WiFi using DSMI for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Play several popular songs with an easy to use playalong feature. You don't have to practice for weeks to entertain your friends. Play for your kids, or let them try. This app is also excellent for educational purposes!

5 ★I recently discovered the beautiful instrument called the Mbria/Kalimba on a documentary about the Mursi tribe in Zimbabwe. I love the sound it produces, so I was curious if there was an app for it....and here it is! One of the best in the Play store! I tried out the "lite" version but knew I had to get the full version, so I did, and I don't regret upgrading it. You can do so many more things with the full version. I also bought a real Mbria online and I'm currently waiting for it to arrive. I am going to use this app to help me learn what it takes to play it so when the real one gets here, I will know what I'm doing! If I should ever get my wish to visit the Mursi tribe, I will take the real one and the app and play along with them as we sit around a fire under the starry skies. Beautiful app!

4 ★You cant realy work it as real one. I Guess it would be hard to set it up as one. There no finger hole in the back of the phone. Tried to whawha the speaker but its no good. Settings would need to be automatic or added slide bar but that might be hard as your holdind and thumbing the keys. I don't know but the Devs can figure it out im sure. Needs more sustain too,maybe. I don't play pro I just have one in my real collection of musical instruments.

3 ★The vibrations can't be turned off contrary to previous comment. That and a loop function would get 5 stars.

4 ★Cool concept and configurability for tunings and midi options! Sadly, latency is always a hardware issue with android audio apps, not dev's fault tho.
