The chromatic and strobe tuners are independent, but both use the same input from the built-in microphone of your phone or tablet for their advanced algorithms.
Chromatic tuner
The chromatic tuner accurately detects the frequency of the tone played on your instrument, and shows it on the chromatic scale. The target strings are highlighted on the scale, and you can see how far is the tone from being in tune. When you get close enough, you can use the strobe tuner for fine tuning.
Strobe tuner
When the pattern is rotating to the right, it means the tone is too high, and you need to tune down. When it is rotating to the left, just tune up. The slower the pattern moves, the better is your instrument tuned.

The algorithms of both tuners are independent - the chromatic tuner uses the Fast Fourier Transformation, but the algorithm in the strobe tuner is much closer to what you can find in oscilloscopes, and is computed directly on the GPU of your phone or tablet.
Tuning by ear
You can also play the reference tones using the buttons at the bottom of the screen. The tone is synthesized, and respects the setting of the concert pitch.
Instruments

Metronome

5 ★Most excellent tuner I have ever used. I was just about to drop $70 for the cheapest strobe tuner I could find. You could put in any tube you wanted but the only two that were default were standard and open G. What the. I called it the Kief tuner. I thought I would at least look it up a read a review but the search engine brought up apps instead. This one was not highly rated at that time but it said it did what the $70 Kief Tuner did..It does that and much much more.
4 ★I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to digital tuners but i am familiar with the basics. Thus far "Strobe tuner pro" has done the job. A friend of mine, whom by no means is a novice what so ever, used this tuner app as well and said that it works pisser ! Another guy as well used it one night when three of us were bending some strings. That individual had good things to say too! Myself & two others have used it on 4 or 5 occasions now, so far , so good.
5 ★This works probably 90% as good as a physical strobe tuner, which usually costs around $2,300 USD, so it's DEFINITELY worth the few dollars to buy! I use it to tune my guitar and steel drum, and it's amazing. Easy to use once you already know how a strobe tuner works!
5 ★Hoping to use this to regulate my wife's pedal harps. Haven't had a chance to use it in anger yet, but so far It seems to work much better than standard tuners, not quite a Petersen or strobotune though. The strobe works well in manual and allows accurate adjustment of the disks/forks for settingintonation and fixing buzzes. Also manages to display the tuning for the highest strings which most tuners struggle with, although the lowest strings on the large concert harp were a bit of a struggle.

5 ★Friggin awesome!! Buy the pro version. Cheap but worth more. Doesn't take up a lot of memory either. I just wish it had a built in metronome. Being able to change the colors would be really nice too. If it could be done without adding to much to the size.
4 ★Stopped working after a few weeks just freezes when opened. Uninstalled the Ap and reinstalled it and now seems to be OK. A4tunelabs were very quick to offer help or a refund so great service from them. Let's hope it stays working as it's very useful.
2 ★I just want the cents meter to be loud and clear like in garage band. These two did not correspond at all. Cool that I could hit refund and get my money back. I found the strobe to be useless.

5 ★Best tuning app I found so far and I've gone through quite a few. Really this app is for professional musicians who are looking for perfect intonation. Now you will get some haters sure, on here but I'm working with an old 1980s model Yamaha FG acoustic guitar that's been beat to of hell... cause my dumbass decided to make it a campfire guitar before I realized what a sweet piece of wood it was. Oh well.. if you're going to be dumb you better be tough. & Imma real tough guy. Go VOLS baby! UT2?
4 ★Love it, but I have trouble syncing the strobe and the cents-meter. Whenever it seems like I'm in tune, one if the meters seems to be off. I'm tuning in double bass and I don't have the sensitivity raised. Any tips?
