It belongs to the Mancala family of board games, and has been played for centuries in almost all African countries. Its appeal has lead to it spreading to Asia and the Middle East. It is, in fact, a variant of the well-known ‘Oware’, Senet, 'Bao' or 'Congkak' game. It is the equivalent of chess. The mechanisms are similar to those in the Go.
The aim of Kissoro is to capture all of the opponent's pawns in order to avoid him/her moving. It is of great educational interest:

- Strategies require the use of calculations

- It tests one’s visual memorization abilities
- It is used to teach useful math skills
- It also allows players to test their mental math (addition and subtraction)
