4 ★*Update Appears to work after updating my phone. If you're having similar issues, try that. **(This would be a 4 or 5, but something wrong happened with an update or something. After clicking on the app, it quickly exits out. I've unistalled and reinstalled to no avail. I'll try updating my phone and edit this review if that works.) **
4 ★Honestly great once you know the romanji but you need to learn kata and hira by sound. Helps memorize the characters. My only problem is the voice audio is inconsistent in volume and I can not understand her. This is very noticable when doing tests for like しand じ where volume really matters. Sometimes it's very loud and clear, other times it's low and inaudible making it very difficult to react too. Maybe it's by design.
4 ★The app is really good and really helpful, but paying for the premium add-on becomes less useful as you go along. I've pretty much mastered hiragana and its annoying that if I wanna practice all my recently learned Katakana, I have to go through all my Hiragana at the same time on the premium feature. For future releases please add the ability to switch between just hiragana or just katana or both. Thank you
4 ★The kana are served up in small batches which works well but I would like to be able to tap on an individual character occasionally for extra reinforcement on the batch page rather than having to go through the entire group over again on the practice page. It's a good app and this is more of a suggestion than a complaint.
5 ★Native English speaker learning non-romantic language for the first time. Great tool for memorizing the kana, much better than flashcards. Is making learning much easier since I can quickly memorize the characters so I can concentrate on the more difficult part of learning- vocab, grammar, etc. Learning by reading has taken off quickly
4 ★It's a great app, I wish it did more. It's great for learning hiragana, and katakana, but I wish it would also do basic kanji. I also wish it would allow you to disable the multi option questions and do only writing. I want it to let you control how linient it is with how far off the letter you are. If you write a horizontal line, it'll accept a number of pixels from the border of the expected input, and as long as your stroke is within that border it'll be accepted. Default I feel is too ez.
5 ★This app is amazing. Make no mistake, this app is for more than just writing the hiragana and katakana, it also teaches you to pronounce them, just as if you were taking a school course to learn them. I recommend having a pencil and paper handy so that you can practice writing without use of the phone screen, so that you can practice refining your skill. I feel like if I keep at it, I may well actually be able to learn Japanese with this app as my starting point.
5 ★Great little App for anyone taking their first steps into Japanese. Learning Hiragana & Katakana is essential for the beginner as it will enable you to read and write anything in Japanese, allowing you to really immerse yourself in the language and provides the foundation for learning Kanji. The app is really easy to open up and use whenever you have some down time and want to get some practice in. The audio cues are wonderful as it also allows the student to hear correct pronunciation.
5 ★Great app. Only thing this id say should be improved is that currently the app volume is always maxed out (meaning that if i lower my phone's volume, the app will still be as loud as possible, unless I completely mute it). The apps volume should be able to be lowered when the phones volume is lowered. Also a DARK MODE would be appretiated
5 ★Amazing!! This app helps you quickly with writing in hiragana and katakana. As a native English speaker, it also helps you in recognizing the differences that the similar characters have. My only wish is that I could test in Katakana and Hiragana separately, even though you almost never read them in that way. Edit: Since originally reviewing this, they've added a slew of features that are perfect for reviewing and learning, including the test I mentioned above!! FIVE STARS!!! 🤩🤩🤩
4 ★I found this app very helpful for learning hiragana and mostly helpful for katakana, however I have a few issues with it I'd love if were changed. It only helps you with Romaji to Kana and doesn't have the option to test you on Kana to Romaji, which would be helpful for when you're trying to learn to read kana faster. Also with katakana, it doesn't differentiate between the ten-ten of "tsu" ヅ and the ten-ten of "su" ズ. Both in-app are "zu", which I find very frustrating.
5 ★I like it a lot. I do wish that it focused a bit more on penmanship. The timing in the test does help with memorization. I would suggest another mode to focus on penmanship. You could even log the strokes made during the test and focus on corrections of the most sloppily written characters. 👍🏾👍🏾
