Description
Hnefatafl is an ancient Scandinavian board game whose variants were played all over medieval Europe before chess was even invented. In those so called Tafl games two different sized armies fight each other. The invading black army tries to capture the white king, while the defending white army tries to protect their king and help him escape.Often also called the Game of the Vikings Hnefatafl tells many stories, like the Moskowites invasion of Sweden or the Viking hordes pillaging Britain. But no matter what the story is one thing always stays the same: The hunt for the king.
Even though the rules aren't complicated the game offers fascinating strategies and rewards tactical play. Try to surround the enemy pieces, plan ahead, lay traps and force your opponent into surrender. Will you capture the king for gold and glory? Can the loyal guards hold back the invading forces and secure the flight of their king?
For offline and online play you can create your own custom variants -- with over 200,000 different variants possible!
The game features cross platform play with iOS, Windows and Linux and you can use a single account to access all your matches from any of your devices. The multiplayer is asynchronous so you can continue your matches whenever you want.

5 ★Love these games. Wish to be able to make the King on the black side to play in reverse like a hostage rescue.
5 ★it's an easy way to learn the game
3 ★UI is a bit confusing. After reporting a bug the devs asked me to send them the game for them to review, and in the process of trying to figure out how to do that I discoved it wasn't a bug but that the default game mode doesn't follow the same rules as described in the main menu rules. Each game mode does have it's own set of rules that you can view when playing that game. I'll just have to search for the one described in the main menu manually.
1 ★The developers do NOT know how tafl is played. A king must be captured from 4 sides for the attacker to win. Once the king reaches a corner, that side wins. This game allows a king to be captured from only 2 sides, and does not allow the kings side to win once a corner is obtained. Translation... This is NOT tafl.
4 ★The registration for an onlune account in the game does not. Good game, though!
5 ★Incredible game! Even better than the chess it's very practical and it is most fabulous board game to ever exist it's just awesome! I wish I was introduced to this game when I was just a kid. Just give it a try, if you understand how this game works, you will love it.
5 ★This is a fantastic implementation of Hnefatafl, offered at a fair one-time purchase price. It comes with lots of rule variants for different player strengths and tutorials for each of them. Nevertheless, this is a game at least as challenging and complex as Chess, so a list of strategy guides in several languages with links in the 'About' section (or wherever there is a good place for a resource list) would be kind. The computer opponent should be improved continuously and add some more themes.
5 ★It's a great game except for the fact that it won't let me make an account. I've tried multiple times but the register button literally does nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
4 ★Love love love it, this is the only app I've found keeping this game alive. Fairly new I've played both offline and online and so far no glitches or complaints. Will update when more to share
