Методика "Шкала прогрессивных матриц" была разработана в 1936 году Джоном Равеном (совместно с Л. Пенроузом). Тест прогрессивные матрицы Равена (Raven Progressive Matrices) предназначен для диагностики уровня интеллектуального развития и оценивает способность к систематизированной, планомерной, методичной интеллектуальной деятельности (логичность мышления).
Тест состоит из 60 заданий (5 серий). В каждой серии заданий содержатся задания нарастающей трудности (например с 1-12 - легкие задания, 13-24 - сложнее и т.д.).
