Poppy meninggal dunia pada tanggal 28 Agustus 1995 di Rumah Sakit Hasan Sadikin Bandung akibat komplikasi Maag, bronchitis/radang tenggorokan atau yang lebih dikenal dengan diphteri serta Rematik yang dideritanya. Poppy show terakhir kalinya di acara Pekan Raya Padang, tepatnya tanggal 2 Agustus 1995. Sebenarnya kondisi kesehatan Poppy sebelum berangkat sudah menurun dan ia pun berencana membatalkan shownya, namun panitia mengingatkan akan banyak penonton yang kecewa jika Poppy tidak hadir. Akhirnya Poppy pun mengabulkan permintaan panitia demi profesional kerja dan rasa cintanya yang begitu besar kepada para penggemarnya.
