Allah berfirman dalam Surat Al-Ahzab Ayat 56 :
إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Artinya : Sesungguhnya Allah dan malaikat-malaikat-Nya bershalawat untuk Nabi. Hai orang-orang yang beriman, bershalawatlah kamu untuk Nabi dan ucapkanlah salam penghormatan kepadanya.
Maknanya : Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala memerintahkan hambanya untuk bersholawat kepada Nabi Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam dan ucapkanlah salam dengan sebenar-benarnya sebagai penghormatan dan pengagungan.
Selain itu, didalam Hadist dijelaskan, keutamaan bersholawat atas Nabi Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam antara lain:
1. merupakan sebab turunnya rahmat, pengampunan dan pahala yang berlipatganda dari Allah Ta’ala
Dari Anas bin Malik radhiyallaahu ‘anhu, bahwa Rasulullah shallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersabda:
مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ صَلَاةً وَاحِدَةً صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرَ صَلَوَاتٍ وَحُطَّتْ عَنْهُ عَشْرُ خَطَيَاتٍ وَرُفِعَتْ لَهُ عَشْرُ دَرَجَاتٍ
“Barangsiapa yang bersholawat kepadaku satu kali, maka Allah bersholawat kepadanya 10 kali shalawat, dihapuskan darinya 10 kesalahan, dan ditinggikan baginya 10 derajat.” (HR. an-Nasa’i).
2. sholawat lebih cepat mengabulkan do’a.
كُلُّ دُعَاءٍ يُدْعَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ بِهِ مَحْجُوبٌ عَنِ السَّمَاءِ حَتَّى يُصَلَّى عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ
“Semua doa itu terhalang, sampai dibacakan sholawat untuk Nabi Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam”
3. sholawat penyebab datangnya syafa’at.
Dari Abu Ad-Darda radhiyallaahu ‘anhu, bahwa Rasulullah shallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersabda:
مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَيَّ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ عَشْرًا وَحِينَ يُمْسِي عَشْرًا أَدْرَكَتْهُ شَفَاعَتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
“Barangsiapa yang bersholawat kepadaku di pagi hari 10 kali dan di sore hari 10 kali, maka dia akan mendapatkan syafaatku pada hari kiamat.” (HR. at-Tabrani).
