Ari pertama kali membentuk Outsider Band sewaktu sekolah di SMA Negeri 2 Surabaya bersama Wawan Juniarso (drummer Dewa) Piyu (gitaris Padi). Kemudian ia bergabung dengan Lost Angels Band, yang kelak menjadi Boomerang.Ia kemudian bergabung dengan Down Beat, yang kemudian berganti nama menjadi Dewa, dan berubah lagi menjadi Dewa 19.[1] Band ini menjadi besar, dan hampir setiap album yang dikeluarkan terjual ratusan ribu kopi. Di tengah kesibukannya menjadi personel Dewa, Ari berhasil menyelesaikan studinya di Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Airlangga (Unair) Surabaya.[2]
Sejak dirilisnya album Pandawa Lima tahun 1997, hubungan Ari dengan Dewa 19 mulai memburuk, terlebih ketika Ari mulai mengonsumsi narkoba dan akhirnya ia dikeluarkan oleh Ahmad Dhani sebagai anggota Dewa,[3] dan posisinya sebagai vokalis digantikan oleh Once. Meski demikian, Ari sempat menjadi backing vocal lagu Roman Picisan dalam album Dewa Bintang Lima.
Setelah resmi keluar dari Dewa, Ari mulai menggarap album solonya. Ari muncul kembali ke dunia hiburan, tampil duet bersama Melly Goeslaw, yang kemudian sukses besar di pasaran. Tahun 2001 Ari mengeluarkan album solo pertamanya Sendiri Dulu, yang juga sukses besar dengan tembang andalannya Misteri Ilahi. Di album ini ia dibantu oleh Bebi (Romeo), Bimo Sulaksono (Romeo, ex-Netral), Erwin Prasetya (ex-Dewa 19), Andra (Dewa 19), Bongky (BIP, ex-Slank), Anto Hoed (Potret), Denny Chasmala, dan Andi Rianto. Tahun 2003 ia kembali merilis album keduanya Keseimbangan. Pada album ini ia menggandeng musisi-musisi hebat seperti Ahmad Dhani, Piyu (Padi), Andra (Dewa), Bebi Romeo, Ricky (Five Minutes), Marshal (ADA Band, ex-Dr.PM). Tahun 2004 ia merilis album ketiganya Kulihat, Kudengar, Kurasa, di mana salah satu lagunya menjadi sound track film layar lebar dengan judul sama, Mengejar Matahari.
Ari mengeluarkan album keempatnya dengan tajuk "Selalu Ada" pada tahun 2006. Di album ini, lagu Cinta Terakhir menjadi andalannya. Pada tahun 2007, Ari merilis album "The Best of" dengan salah satu lagunya, Aku dan Dirimu, di mana Ari duet bersama Bunga Citra Lestari.[4] Pada tahun 2012, Ari meluncurkan sebuah album yang diberi judul Yang Terbaik. Album ini hanya dijual di gerai KFC di seluruh Indonesia. Album ini memuat delapan single pilihan dari lima album studio sebelumnya, ditambah enam lagu terbaru Kisah Kita, Karena Aku Tlah Denganmu, Cintailah Aku Sepenuh Hati, Satu Cinta, Doa Untuk Cinta dan Cinta Adalah Misteri. Pada tahun 2014, tanggal 18 Juli 2014, Ari Lasso merilis single terbaru yang berjudul Kamu Egois yang secara resmi diputar di 76 Radio seluruh Indonesia.[5]
