George Wassouf (en arabe: جورج وسوف) est un chanteur Syrien. Né le 23 Décembre 1961 à Kafroun dans une famille de confession chrétienne, c'est son père Wadee Wassouf, qui, poète, encourage son fils à poursuivre sa passion pour le chant en devenant chanteur. A 16 ans, celui qu'on surnommait déjà l'enfant miraculeux, obtient la nationalité Libanaise.A l'âge de 10 ans déjà, George Wassouf chantait lors des mariages et fêtes en tout genre dans sa ville natale de Kafroun. A 12 ans, pendant l'une de ses performances à un mariage, il fut repéré par George Yazbeck qui deviendra son premier manager et producteur. Peu de temps après, il part pour le Liban afin de poursuivre ses rêves de gloire.
Comme beaucoup d'autres artistes du monde arabe, George Wassouf participe à l'émission libanaise « Studio El Fan » et se fait un nom dans le milieu de la musique. Le directeur du magazine George Brahim Khoury le surnomme « Sultan El-Tarab » (Sultan du chant) à cause de sa chanson classique « El Hawa Sultan ». Les gens alors s'accordent à dire que George Wassouf est l'être idéal pour représenter le genre de musique « tarab » grâce à sa voix magique et cristalline qui d'abord aigüe quand il était jeune devint plus mature et profonde avec l'âge.
