De Hortus heeft twintig hectare aan tuinen en ligt ten noorden van het dorp Haren, onder de rook van de stad Groningen. Op het terrein bevinden zich een groot aantal, heel verschillende tuinen. Zo is er een wilde plantentuin (Laarmantuin), een Keltische tuin en een Chinese tuin. In deze laatste staat een authentiek Chinees theehuis.
