Nasida Ria dibentuk di Semarang, Jawa Tengah pada tahun 1975 oleh H. Mudrikah Zain, seorang guru qira'at; Zain yang sebelumnya berpengalaman dengan kelompok campur Assabab mengumpulkan sembilan siswinya untuk membentuk suatu kelompok musik kasidah: Mudrikah Zain, Mutoharoh, Rien Jamain, Umi Kholifah, Musyarofah, Nunung, Alfiyah, Kudriyah, dan Nur Ain. Pada awalnya kelompok musik ini hanya menggunakan rebana sebagai alat musik. Setelah walikota Semarang Iman Soeparto Tjakrajoeda, yang juga merupakan penggemar mereka, menyumbangkan suatu organ untuk membantu Nasida Ria, dan mendukung mereka untuk juga memperlancar pelajaran musik, mereka kemudian mendapatkan dan menggunakan gitar bas, biola, dan gitar.Nasida Ria sekarang dimarkaskan di Semarang. Manajernya adalah Choliq Zain, anak dari HM Zain.
