Em 1959, a primeira estação de rádio local, a JBC (Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation), fundada por um dos articuladores da independência jamaicana, Norman Manley, tornou-se a primeira emissora da ilha a concentrar-se mais na música jamaicana que no jazz americano e no rhythm and blues.
A partir deste momento, a rádio tornou-se não apenas uma fonte de orgulho para os jamaicanos como também o primeiro elo da cadeia da produção musical: shows transmitidos ao vivo proporcionaram aos produtores locais uma geração de novos talentos para a indústria fonográfica da ilha.
Em homenagem à história desta música extraordinária, a exposição Jamaica, Jamaica!, realizada no Sesc 24 de Maio, apresenta a Rádio Jamaica, uma emissora online concebida exclusivamente para a mostra que transmitirá diversas canções, sonoridades e playlists elaboradas por curadores convidados, 24 horas por dia e 7 dias por semana, de 14 de março a 26 de agosto de 2018.
