Description
This app is designed for music lovers or DJ's with a large (ideally tagged and organised) MP3 music collection. The app will run on a variety of devices, including phones, tablets and multimedia boxes, running Android versions between 2.3.3 and 4.3. The user interface is simple and allows music to be selected and played quickly and effortlessly. A feature of the app, is that it does not try to scan and categorize your music based on ID3 tags. Many apps try to do this and cause the device to hang or crash when cataloguing large music collections. Instead, you simply point the app at files or folders on the internal storage, external SD Card or USB media device and the app can add that music and/or any files found recursively to the current playlist. Playlists can then be saved and re-loaded, as required. The app can be customised for the user in many ways, some of these features are listed below.The app was developed with the intention that it would be installed on a USB capable device. Many current and older devices do not support this by default and need to be rooted for admin privileges, which would then allow USB storage to be mounted. The app will still work on devices that do not have these facilities however.
Playback Features:
- Configure ID3 tag information displayed
- Configure time information displayed
- Progress through tracks with seek bar, next and previous buttons
- Repeat single track, shuffle multiple tracks

- Show/hide main controls
- Show/hide file name of playing track
Music Selection Features:
- Configure default location for the file browser
- Add single or multiple files to the current playlist
- Add a directory to the current playlist (recursive option available)
Playlist Features:
- Currently playing song highlighted and tracked in playlist
- Options to sort
- Saves by default to internal app storage location
- Drag songs in playlist for desired order (if enabled in preferences)
- Configure ID3 tag information to be displayed
- System notifications for add, delete and save
- Specify limits for adding/playlist maximum size
Track History Features:
- Enable/disable track history
- Configure ID3 tag information displayed
- Show/hide time stamp
- Allows track history to be discarded after specified rolling time period
Developer Features:
- Enable/disable miscellaneous error/information logging
- Allows log to be discarded after specified rolling time period
Miscellaneous Features:
- Configure colours for screen headers
- Graphic equalizer
- Volume control and auto cut-off when other apps play sound
- Export playlists to specified external storage location
- Reset all app data from within app
- Fixed or default device orientation
- Basic desktop widget
The aim of this project, was to introduce the developer to the main concepts of Android. The software utilises the Android Support Library (v4) to enable a consistent approach to developing a user interface across a wide range of Android versions. The software was written and tested within a tight time frame, but if you find the app useful, or would like to see additional features, or existing features improved, feel free to contact the developer with suggestions.

Android 2.3.3 - 2.3.7: Gingerbread (API Level 10)
Android 3.0 - 3.2: Honeycomb (API Levels 11-13)
Android 4.0 - 4.0.4: Ice Cream Sandwich (API Levels 14 & 15)
Android 4.1 - 4.2: Jelly Bean (API levels 16 & 17)
Built against Android 4.3 (API level 18), but not tested yet.
