Description

Try the free Family Link parental controls app from Google. Whether your children are younger or in their teens, the Family Link app lets you set digital ground rules remotely from your own device to help guide them as they learn, play, and explore online. For children under 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your country), Family Link also lets you create a Google Account for your child that's like your account, with access to most Google services.

With Family Link parental controls, you can:

Guide them to good content

• View their app activity - Not all screen time is the same. Help your child make healthy decisions about what they do on their Android device, with activity reports showing how much time they’re spending on their favorite apps. You can see daily, weekly, or monthly reports.
• Manage their apps - Handy notifications let you approve or block apps your child wants to download from the Google Play Store. You can also manage in-app purchases, and hide specific apps on their device, all remotely from your own device.
• Feed their curiosity - It can be hard to figure out what apps are right for your child, so Family Link shows you teacher-recommended apps on Android that you can add directly to their device.

Keep an eye on screen time

• Set limits - It’s up to you to decide the right amount of screen time for your child. Family Link lets you set time limits and a bedtime for their supervised devices, so you can help them find a good balance.
• Lock their device - Whether it’s time to go play outside, have dinner, or just spend time together, you can remotely lock a supervised device whenever it’s time to take a break.

See where they are

• It’s helpful to be able to find your child when they’re on the go. You can use Family Link to help locate them as long as they’re carrying their Android devices.

Important Information

• Family Link’s tools vary depending on your child’s device. See a list of compatible devices at families.google.com/familylink/setup
• While Family Link helps you manage your child's purchases and downloads from Google Play, they will not need approval to install app updates (including updates that expand permissions), apps you have previously approved, or apps that have been shared in Family Library. Parents should regularly review their child’s installed apps and app permissions in Family Link.
• You should carefully review the apps on your child’s supervised device and disable those you don’t want them to use. Note that you may not be able to disable some pre-installed apps.
• To see the location of your child or teen’s device, it must be powered on, recently active, and connected to the internet.
• Teacher-recommended apps are only available on Android devices in the US to parents of children of certain ages.
• While Family Link provides tools to manage your child’s online experience, it does not make the internet safe. Rather, it is intended to give parents choices about how their kids use the internet, and encourage conversations about internet use.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

2 ★Super disappointed with this app. It is a false security. There are many great things about this app in helping keep our children safe. But WHY does it still allow Google searches? Hello! Access to the intent is the number 1 thing I am trying to protect my child from. You can block the Google app, but they can still search for things and see and read plenty on information without going to the website. Apparently a child can also play plenty of games through the Google app. BIG FAIL!!!
1 ★Time limits are worthless, your kid will bypass the limits within a week by using the Google assistant. There are many forum posts asking Google for a fix and nothing, so set your expectations really low for controlling their time.
2 ★This app is really starting to frustrate me. I put contacts into my daughter's phone, all kinds of family, but the only people that this app will allow her to call or text is myself and her mom. Keeps telling me that restrictions are on, even after I've shut the restrictions off. About to dump this app and get something more reliable.
1 ★This app doesn't consistently do the main function it is supposed to do. I can stand right in front of my kid playing on the Chromebook, and my phone says the Chromebook is "locked." This is the case for both kids' accounts. Same wifi network, all settings checked and double-checked. This is disappointing, especially since I can't use the McCaffee child protect feature on a Chromebook (you would think FamLink would work on CB). Sent a help request to Google weeks ago and I haven't heard a peep.
2 ★I have had this app on my son's phone for 2 years, my daughters chromebook for 1 year and on her phone for 4 years. Has worked without any issues. I purchased daughter a new phone and now the screen time function won't work. Everything else works great, but I'm not able to set bedtimes, limits, or lock the phone. Very sad because this was an amazing app.
1 ★I got this app for my daughter and it was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. I just got it to keep track of her playing time. You have to wipe out the entire phone to get rid of it. You can't even make purchases except with gift cards. It makes my child watch youtube kids, which sucks by the way. Restricts a lot without my permission. This is a bad app.
5 ★Best app I have used so far for monitoring activity. I can set timers on apps, close and open apps very quickly. This will close an app even if the user is activley on it. This app let you control google use and logs paged visited. Bonus. It also shows live updates of the users location, so long as the device being used is with the user. For example, if they leave the phone/tablet at home, then it will not be able to show thier location.
1 ★I add this app for my 8 year old niece. I got her a phone for Christmas. She lives in a different state. This app worked for a month and when there's updates it no longer works. I can't help her with the play store nothing. They got a lot of bugs to fix. I thought it would be good because most our phone operate with Google. This does not. I'm better off paying a app service the to allow this one.
4 ★This is a great app for enforcing good habits, and controlling screen time. An improvement I'd love to see is it the phone usage daily limit could have certain app/features toggled from draining that day's limit. For instance, if you have your phone screen on and are just on the phone menu, it's burning your daily time limit. Same goes for if you're on an app that is set to always allowed. Even though that app is immune to the daily time limit restriction, it is still burning that time for the other apps. It makes it a little annoying that if you're having a phone call with someone, or doing some school work using your phone, you're giving up the free time you would otherwise use to reward your good efforts. Just a little backwards in my mind.
1 ★Horrible experience! Now it blocks everything and after removing the device, Microsoft just adds it back the next day. +now won't allow me as a parent access to the kids account. I just want to get rif off it and use our devices fully again. But even customer support has no clue on how to fix it. At least have the not been any help. (Resetting the laptop completely is not an option)
3 ★Decent parental controls. My kid can remove himself from the "family" group which screws up controls. I would love to see the ability to set a second schedule, for school, and not use the "bedtime" schedule alone. Also, if your kid turns 13, they can opt out of control, which sucks when you as the parent owns the phone and wants to set rules and controls.
1 ★The service is Too restrictive. Every time I need to update my son's fortnite I have to completely sign out of parental mode. Update the app, and sign back in. If I have my son's school account registered that another thing I have to sign out of before a I can update. Basically it's too restrictive and does give parent enough control unless they have to log out just to get simple task done that could just bee approved or ,amnaged by parent
