Rádio Carandá FM é emissora comunitária da Associação de Comunicação e Cultura de Montes Claros de Goiás (ASCOM).A entidade mantenedora da rádio foi fundada em 1998, através dos esforços de pessoas da comunidade montes-clarense, representado pelo então presidente do Sindicato Rural, Lassir Teixeira. A emissora entrou no ar pela primeira vez no mês de Fevereiro de 1998 e ficou no ar, por alguns meses, pois ainda não havia outorga dos órgãos competentes. Após denúncias de representante de rádio comercial de uma cidade vizinha, a cerca de 60 quilômetros, a rádio comunitária de Montes Claros teve a visita de agentes de repressão da Anatel, que apreendeu todos os equipamentos da emissora, tirando a rádio do ar.
A Rádio Carandá FM voltou ao ar três anos depois, quando a emissora recebeu autorização dos órgãos competentes para funcionar. Foi inaugurada no dia 23 de Outubro de 2001 pelos fundadores da associação, Lassir Teixeira, Ricardo Alves do Nascimento, Odantes Martins, Agnaldo Teles de Oliveira, Sebastião Ribeiro de Souza, Leonésio Peres Leite, Núbia de Fátima Silva Duarte e demais integrantes da ASCOM. O ato de inauguração da Rádio Carandá FM contou com a presença do então prefeito Lázaro Jacinto, de outras autoridades políticas e eclesiásticas da localidade, representantes de associações e sindicatos, bem como, da equipe de comunicadores e colaboradores da rádio.
