Description

Around the globe there are more than 30000 particle accelerators! The 27 km Large Hadron Collider (LHC) may be the most famous example, but you're likely to find an accelerator much closer to home.

Medics have been using particle accelerators since the 1950s to target cancers with highly focused beams of particles, making radiotherapy one of the most common uses of a particle accelerator. Your local hospital may host a number of accelerators.

Today (from the comfort of your own classroom, office or sofa) you can build your very own augmented reality particle accelerator!

To get started, all you'll need is a set of our paper accelerator components (pick yours up from our website) and our Android app. Place the components and begin to explore the physics of the electromagnetic fields that make up a particle acclerator.

This app was brought to you by physicists at the Cockcroft Institute and University of Liverpool. We're working hard to bring you the next generation of particle acelerator, including designs for high energy physics and medical use.

We hope that you enjoy building your very own acceleratAR!

Questions & Answers

Q: What is an APK File?

A: Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An APK file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system.

Q: If I install an APK from this website, will I be able to update the app from the Play Store?

A: Yes, absolutely. The Play Store installs APKs it downloads from Google's servers, and sideloading from a site like ApkClean.net goes through a very similar process, except you're the one performing the downloading and initiating the installation (sideloading).
As soon as the Play Store finds a version of the app newer than the one you've sideloaded, it will commence an update.

Q: Why ApkClean.net can guarantee APK 100% safe?

A: Whenever someone wants to download an APK file from ApkClean.net, we'll check the corresponding APK file on Google Play and allow user download it directly (of course, we'll cache it on our server). If the APK file does not exist on Google Play, we'll search it in our cache.

Q: What are Android App permissions?

A: Apps require access to certain systems within your device. When you install an application, you are notified of all of the permissions required to run that application.

1 ★Made the cubes, but it doesn't work on my phone or from the phones of my students. Please let us know if there are special phones to use, a PDF with instructions, etc. Looks like a great idea...
1 ★It doesn't work
1 ★While searching for LHC apps discovered your app. However, after reading info on app, I did not find any info concerning what devices it would work with. But I still downloaded app onto my Samsung Galaxy Tablet and executed it. The "Begin" tab brought a box up indicating app would work "very soon." I'm waiting but it appears that your idea of "very soon" is quite different than mind. Fortunately I'm not holding my breath! The message indicated try playing in your "snadbox." YES, you misspelled sandbox. From that, I should have realized that there would be problems with the sandbox. And there was a problem. Selecting the "violet" X-Y Grid icon resulted in icon turning white and nothing happened. I suggest that you only put your app and any future apps online when they are actually ready to use. And further indicate what devices they will work with as well as memory requirements and opsys versions. I am very, very disappointed with my experience. And my disappointment began "very soon" after attempting to use your app. And my "very soon" was much sooner than your promise! I would have rated the app as ZERO but that option is not available so would have to rate app as ONE.
